I've been thinking a lot lately about the gap between what we have and what we think we need.
Most of us know that feeling — the moment when the resources run out before the need does. When the money, the energy, the time, or the faith feels nowhere near enough for what's being asked of us. It's an uncomfortable place to be.
Matthew 14 puts that feeling front and centre. A crowd of thousands, a hillside, and nothing but a boy's small lunch. The disciples see the problem clearly — there isn't enough, and the sensible thing is to send everyone away. But Jesus doesn't see scarcity the way we do.
He takes the five loaves and two fish. He gives thanks. And then something happens that defies every reasonable expectation — five thousand people eat their fill, and there's more left over than they started with.
What moves me most about this miracle isn't just the scale of it. It's the starting point. Jesus didn't wait for more resources before He acted. He worked with what was offered, however small, and multiplied it beyond what anyone could have imagined.
I find that genuinely challenging. How often do we hold back from stepping forward because we don't feel we have enough? How often does scarcity thinking stop us from placing what we have into His hands?

He will provide. That's not a platitude. It's a promise.
