I think most of us, if we're honest, find it much easier to do something than to simply be still. When life feels uncertain, our instinct is to act — fix it, plan for it, worry about it, fight it - I know mine definitely is! So when I came across Exodus 14:14 again recently — "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still" — it stopped me in my tracks a little.
The Israelites in that passage were terrified. They were trapped between the sea and an approaching army, with absolutely no way out by their own efforts. And God's instruction to them wasn't a battle plan. It was stillness. Trust. Watching Him work.
I wanted to design something that captured that same sense of quiet surrender — not passive, but peaceful. A lake at sunset felt like exactly the right image. Still water. A small boat, untroubled, resting on the surface. A sky easing into soft golds and blues as the day comes to a close. There's something about that kind of scene that makes you want to exhale.
This print was actually suggested by a lovely customer, Elizabeth, who had this exact idea in mind — so I really hope it's everything she pictured.
I think we all have moments where we need this verse more than we'd like to admit. A diagnosis we're waiting on. A relationship we can't fix. A decision that isn't ours to make alone. Exodus 14:14 reminds us that being still isn't giving up — it's choosing to trust that God is already moving on our behalf, even when we can't see it yet.
If that's where you are right now, I hope this print is a gentle companion for the season you're in.
